Regulating the sensory system

The challenge of sensory overload: why your brain is exhausted

If you are on the autism spectrum, your brain processes sensory information with particular intensity. What others consider background noise can feel like a physical assault to you. This hypersensitivity keeps your sympathetic nervous system (survival mode) in constant alert, often leading to exhaustion or shutdown.

What neuroscience says about ASD and hypnosis

Recent research shows that hypnosis is a powerful lever for emotional and sensory regulation in neurodivergent profiles.

  • Cognitive flexibility: A study from the University of Lyon (2021) demonstrated that hypnosis helps reduce social anxiety and rigidity by improving the plasticity of neural circuits.

  • Interoception and control: A study published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders highlights that hypnosis helps to better perceive and modulate internal signals (stress, fatigue) before they become overwhelming.

  • The role of the vagus nerve: Clinical research indicates that hypnosis allows for the activation of the parasympathetic system. For someone on the autistic spectrum, this is a vital neurological break that allows sensory tension to drop.

My method: a neuro-compatible and somatic approach

Classic hypnosis, often too long and based on abstract metaphors, can be exhausting. My approach is different:

  • Rapid hypnosis: We go straight to the point. We avoid verbal fatigue to enter directly into a useful experience, thus avoiding mental saturation.

  • Induction through movement: Instead of forcing you into stillness (which can be stressful), I use movement. This allows for the physical "unloading" of sensory energy surplus.

  • Sensation sub-modalities: We work on the physical structure of your perceptions. If a sensation is too strong, we modify its temperature, pressure or vibration so that it becomes manageable.

Geneva inspiration: a "reset button" for your senses

My practice is inspired by clinical advances in Geneva regarding stress regulation. By using physical levers, we offer your nervous system a true "reset button." We don't ask your mind to "calm your senses"; we use somatic focusing techniques to directly soothe your body's response.
